Will a Shirtless Zac Efron Take the Low Road?

Some think a shirtless Zac Efron is going to be seen in more and more movies to come. Will this come to pass? Will Zac take the low road and bank on his good looks as the rather shaky foundation for his budding career? Let’s take a quick review of his recent and present roles shall we.

The year Zac became part of the 100 Most Beautiful People list by People Magazine, Zac was almost done with high school musical and had appeared in various shows like MTV’s Punk’d. He also played a part in Vanessa Hudgen’s music video for her song “Say OK” and of course, he was the love partner of Vanessa in the video. This was also the year John Travolta’s Hairspray got premiered. Zac was the leading lady’s love interest. He was Link Larkin, low and beholds a pop dancer. Zac reportedly sand all his song in that one. His hair was cut and colored, and he lost a few pounds for the role which paid of by being reviewed positively.

The second big hit movie was High School Musical two which went out in 2007. It seems that from that point on, Efron was at the top of IMDPro’s Star meter. Number one in fact. In the film, fans were treated to a shirtless Zac Efron. I suppose there are omens of more things to come. High School Musical 2 was a big success. It broke the record for being the most watched basic U.S. cable show of all time. It had seventeen point 2 million viewers.

At about this time, the nefarious, infamous Rolling Stone Cover photo of Zac Efron got into print. Here, we see an almost shirtless Zac Efron, looking much like any other Hollywood boy toy type idol for mass consumption. Efron appeared in the 07 Teen Choice Awards presenting the Award for Favorite Movie.

And of course, he appeared in High School Musical 3: Senior Year. This time, HSM is released through theaters. Zac’s next role will be someone aged seventeen again. He might not be able to get out of that stereotype he’s gotten himself into. The drama is produced by Adam Shankman, it how a seventeen year old boy grows up into adulthood, a coming of age story.

However, his newest film might see a change of scenery. Zac is cast as the lead character in the upcoming film entitled: Me and Orson Welles. Orson Welles, a many would know, is the legendary director. The story of the movie is that Zac’s character will be cast in Orson’s film entailed Julius Caesar and he will be attracted to this production assistant who is close to Welles. The film will show how Welles and Zac’s character butts heads in the making of the movie. Perhaps this is the first sign that Zac will be leaving the Hollywood low road.

The other sign is his staring in the new remake of Footloose which originally starred young Kevin Bacon. I suppose being in the Greese mold isn’t so bad for a career. We may not see so much of shirtless Zac Efron again.

National Geographic’s Lost Kingdoms of the Maya [VHS]

Who were the Mayans? The answer depends on who you ask. Legend has it that the gods made them from corn. Armchair cultural critics with little more than a page-long encyclopedia entry’s worth of knowledge see them as a ritualistic, dynastic people with a strong penchant for boulder hackysack. Take an hour-long tour of Lost Kingdoms of the Maya with host Susan Sarandon, however, and you’ll see a cu…

Jane Eyre [VHS]

$5.24

Made two years after Citizen Kane, this 1943 version of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre sure looks like star Orson Welles muscled his way behind the camera much of the time. (In fact, costar Joan Fontaine–who plays the title character–has maintained that Welles methodically did just that every day on the set.) Not that the film’s official director was a hack: Robert Stevenson, who later had a bu…

Apocalypse Now / Apocalypse Now: Redux In the tradition of such obsessively driven directors as Erich von Stroheim and Werner Herzog, Francis Ford Coppola approached the production of Apocalypse Now as if it were his own epic mission into the heart of darkness. The Magnificent Ambersons

$6.73

Citizen Kane is considered by many to be Orson Welles’s masterpiece, but more than a few prominent critics have argued that his second film, 1942’s The Magnificent Ambersons, is an even greater artistic achievement. It’s certainly the source of the most painful injustice of Welles’s brief career in Hollywood, having been seized from the director’s control, drastically cut from over two hours to me…

Head (1968)While the Beatles delighted fans with A Hard Day’s Night, the Monkees confounded theirs with Head.
